“Now is the time to free the heart, allow all the acts of your life to come home.”
— John O’Donohue
I recently traveled to Dallas for our Coldwell Banker APEX Top 10% Mastermind Meeting, sponsored by our company owners and led by our incredible brokers, Josh Arnold and Lori Hendricks.
What an opportunity to be surrounded by talented professionals who are willing to share their knowledge, experiences, and ideas!
We spent time discussing ways to sharpen our skills, expand our resources, strengthen our networks, and learn from one another. All with one common goal: to better serve our clients in today’s challenging real estate market.
But something else from that meeting stayed with me, and it had very little to do with selling real estate.
Josh and Lori reminded us of the importance of taking care of ourselves. They encouraged us to take vacations, make time for family and friends, and find a healthy balance between our professional and personal lives.
Their genuine appreciation and support made me think about something we often overlook when we’re busy taking care of everyone else.
When was the last time we gave ourselves the same kindness and attention we so willingly give others?
I came across John O’Donohue’s beautiful words, and they seemed to capture exactly what I had been thinking.
Being kind and gentle with ourselves isn’t selfish. It’s recognizing that we, too, need care and attention.
For me, that means protecting the things that help me function and flourish. Getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, making time for spiritual reflection, and enjoying those precious moments of quiet.
It means giving myself permission to step away from the demands of a busy schedule without feeling guilty.
I’ve always believed I function at my best when I’m paying attention to the people I love, the people I care about, and the people I work with and for.
But I’ve come to realize that we can’t give our best to others if we continually neglect ourselves.
One of the greatest gifts we can give someone is our undivided attention. To really listen, to be present, and to recognize when someone needs a little extra kindness or encouragement.
And sometimes, that someone is us!
I’m grateful to be part of a company whose leadership recognizes that success isn’t measured only by production numbers, awards, or accomplishments. It’s also about helping people grow, supporting one another, and encouraging us to live full and meaningful lives.
My Monday Lesson?
Taking care of yourself doesn’t take away from what you give others. It makes what you give even more meaningful.
After all, a well-nourished mind, a rested body, and a grateful heart have so much more to share.
Here’s my question for you:
Are you as generous with yourself as you are with others? And what’s one thing you could do this week to give yourself a little kindness you so freely share?
Until next Monday…
Keep learning, keep growing, and Be the Difference.
