Seven Years Without My Geno ~ The Memories Still Take Me There

September 30th marks seven years since I lost my wonderful husband, Geno.

Seven years. Sometimes that seems impossible.

When I look through old photographs like this one of us in Venice, I’m reminded not simply of the places we traveled, but of the life we shared along the way. Geno and I were partners in every sense of the word, in real estate, in travel, in family, and most importantly, in life.

We worked hard, we laughed a lot, and we certainly knew how to have an adventure!

If you knew Geno, chances are you remember that wonderful smile, his sense of humor, and the way he could make people feel comfortable almost immediately. He genuinely enjoyed people, and people enjoyed being around him. He had wisdom when you needed it, encouragement when things weren’t going quite right, and usually a story or a laugh to go along with it.

But the Geno our family knew and loved most was the husband, father and grandfather who loved his family fiercely. He was our steady presence, our cheerleader, our adventurer, and very often the one making us laugh.

Grief changes with time. The sharpness softens, but the missing never completely goes away. Instead, the memories seem to find their own way into everyday life, a photograph I haven’t seen in years, a story someone tells, a place we visited, a song, or simply a moment when I think, Geno would have loved this.

And then there are photographs like this one.

There we are in Venice, enjoying another adventure together, with no idea how precious an ordinary moment on a boat would someday become.

Seven years later, I don’t just remember how Geno left this life.

I remember how fully he lived it.

And how very lucky I was that we got to share so much of it together. ❤️

My mind still talks to you.
My heart still looks for you.
My soul knows you’re at peace.
And I still miss you every single day.

RIP, my Geno. September 30, 2019. ❤️
