Longhorn fans, rejoice! What better way to usher in the new year than with an edge-of-your-seat 2 overtime win at the Peach Bowl? The Texas football program showed its grit and determination in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Arizona State today, New Year’s Day, at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium—and let me tell you, the Longhorns weren’t just cooking peaches; they were roasting Sun Devils!
Seeded fifth in the 12-team CFP bracket, the Longhorns came in as big favorites but decided to keep things interesting for their fans. After all, why win in regulation when you can make it a cardiac event? It was a showdown of the Big 12’s last two champions, and the 2023 champs proved they still have the horns to take down the competition.
The nail-biter ended with Texas grabbing a critical takeaway in overtime, sending the burnt orange faithful into a frenzy and propelling the Longhorns into the CFP semifinals. Who’s next? Either Ohio State or Oregon in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 20. But for now, we’ll savor this peachy victory!

Oh, and speaking of winning—let’s talk about my highlight of the day. While the Longhorns were out there scoring touchdowns, I was scoring winnings of the pots at our party! That’s right, folks—$95 for the first half, $95 for the second half, and $190 total for a clean sweep! Who knew cheering on the Longhorns could be so lucrative? |
As we say in Austin: Start the year strong, finish it stronger. Hook ’em, and here’s to more wins on and off the field in 2025! And as Matthew McConaughey constantly says: “Alright, Alright, Alright!”
