23 Years Later: A Day We Will Never Forget!

It’s hard to believe that 23 years have passed since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. That day fundamentally changed our lives forever. Although we knew things would never be the same, we didn’t fully grasp how much they would change. Sadly, many of those changes have become our “new normal.”

The memories of that dark day remain crystal clear in my mind. I’ll never forget the fear I felt when my husband called with the news as I was driving to the office. I immediately turned around and spent the rest of the day in disbelief and tears, watching the events unfold.

Almost 3,000 lives were lost on 9/11, but the U.S. government now believes more people have died from 9/11-related illnesses than in the attacks themselves. This sobering information reinforces to us that 9/11 is far from being “behind us.”

One day, 9/11 will be history for future generations, but for those of us who lived through it, we must never forget. Today, 23 years later, I still tear up thinking about that day.

“Time is passing. Yet for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.”
