Hard to believe today is the summer solstice, aka the longest day of the year and the official start of astronomical summer. You can make sure you see the Strawberry moon tonight from any location in Austin. I love the iconic places in Austin that many of us like to check off our bucket list, each summer, before the summer’s end. It just wouldn’t be a summer in Austin without doing these things:
u Go to Barton Springs Pool , jump off the diving board and enjoy the 68-70 temperatures, ideal for year round swimming.
u Take a day trip to a nearby Texas town — think Fredericksburg, Wimberley, Gruene, Georgetown, or San Marcos.
u Ride the Deep Eddy Pool to Pool Burger to Deep Eddy Cabaret pipeline….. Many call it the Tarrytown Trifecta. My son use to go to swim practice at the deep Eddy pool when not swimming at the University of Texas with the Texas Aquatics. He still swims there and takes his family.
u Escape the heat in a local museum — The Blanton Museum of Art. Note on Tuesdays they have free admission.
u Attend an Austin FC game — you will not believe the energy in Q2 Stadium..it’s electricifying.
u Listen to live music and take in Downtown views at The Drop-In — We are so fortunate to have this event at the Long Center; don’t forget water, picnic blankets, and lawn chairs and.
u Swim at the Austin Motel — there are plenty of poolside events to choose from. Don’t forget the Moon swim tonight!
u Float the San Marcos River — and let your cooler full of refreshments float alongside you.
u Ride the revamped Zilker Eagle — you’re never too old to enjoy a mini-train.
u Eat at Ski Shores Cafe — then rent a paddleboard, kayak, or surfboard from its on-site buoy locker and play on Lake Austin.
u Watch a film from your car at Blue Starlite Drive-In — the city skyline is behind the screen at the Downtown location.
u Grab your friends and go to happy hour at a local restaurant and use the ATX Guide to find your new favorite deal.
