Happy Mothers Day ~ You are Not Forgotten Mom!

I was reading Maria Shriver’s Sunday paper today and came across a very meaningful quote that spoke to me:

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
Elizabeth Stone

Maria was talking about her mother and a whistle she came across that her mother gave her. It made me think of all the things my mother did by setting an example and creating an experience of family life. As I was baking her oatmeal raisin cookie recipe for the kids today, I remember all the times she baked them and we couldn’t wait for the first batch to come out of the oven (her secret ingredient was cinnamon)! We loved them warm and enjoyed the first cookie, and the second and the third! LOL!

Motherhood is beautiful and complicated and my mother worked hard to create our home and family. Her parents died when she was two so she was winging it with three kids. It’s joyful and can also be heartbreaking, like when my brother was shot at Kent State. She looked at motherhood as an honor, a responsibility, and a privilege to be given the chance to help shape her three kid’s life. We were all uniquely different and she contributed to each one of us blossoming to our fullest potential.

“Your Mother is always with you. She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street. She’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick; the fragrance of life itself.

She’s the cool hand on your brow when you are not feeling well; she’s your breath in the air on a cold winter’s day.

She’s the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, colors of the rainbow, she is Christmas morning.

Your mother lives inside your laughter. She’s the place you came from, your first home and she’s the map you follow with each step you take.”
