As the festive season rolls around, one cherished tradition that our family eagerly anticipates is The Trail of Lights in Austin, Texas. This year, the magic officially kicked off on Monday, December 4th, but we decided to be adventuresome again like last year, and signed up for The Trail of Lights Fun Run event held on Saturday, December 2nd.
The day unfolded with a cascade of excitement, starting with cheering on our beloved Longhorns as they triumphed over the Oklahoma State Cowboys– a perfect prelude to the festivities ahead! From there, we embarked on another victory celebration, watching Beckett’s first basketball game where her team emerged victorious.
With our spirits soaring, we made our way to The Trail of Lights, armed with our bib numbers on our Fun Run shirts. We signed up for Wave 1, and were a little late but they let us right on through.
The evening at the Trail of Lights proved to be a spectacle of joy and wonder. One of the highlights was the shorter lines for the Ferris wheel – a personal favorite that offered breathtaking views of our beloved city’s skyline. As we ascended, the cityscape adorned with twinkling lights painted a mesmerizing picture.

Hudson and Beckett got to meet Santa Claus, letting him know their key items on their wish list. The display of lights, each a testament to the creativity and festive spirit of the season, left us awe-struck. Our favorite light displays, with their vibrant hues and intricate designs, beckoned us into a world of holiday magic.

Of course, no visit to the Trail of Lights is complete without standing beneath the iconic Zilker Park Tree. The sheer magnitude of this marvel never fails to amaze – 39 streamers, each adorned with 81 multicolored, 25-watt bulbs, culminating in a majestic double star measuring an impressive 10 feet from point to point. |
As we reflect on this unforgettable day, filled with sports victories, holiday lights, and shared laughter, the Trail of Lights remains a beacon of joy and tradition in our family’s holiday celebrations. Here’s to the magic of Austin’s Trail of Lights, where each step is a journey into the heart of Christmas enchantment.
