Halloween’s Evolution: From Samhain to Spooky Fun

Did you know that the Halloween we celebrate today has its origins in the ancient Celtic Festival of Samhain, which was observed about 2,000 years ago on November 1st? This festival marked the beginning of winter. Over time, the Christian church moved the celebration to November 1st, calling it All Saints Day or All Hallows Day, with the night before becoming known as Hallows Eve, later shortened to Halloween.

Jump ahead to the 19th century in America, where Irish and Scottish immigrants reshaped this time-honored tradition and introduced the concept of Trick or Treating. In those days, it was more about playing tricks than receiving treats. Nowadays, Halloween is all about parties, indulging in delicious candies, embracing fun or spooky costumes, carving pumpkins, and of course, going door-to-door for treats.

However you decide to enjoy this timeless and eerie night, I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and joyful Halloween!

Happy trick or treating my little goblins!
