Established by the collaborative efforts of Mary and Nelson Monteith, Honest Mary’s stands as a local culinary haven dedicated to serving wholesome fast food with a positive influence on people’s lives.
Back in 2015, Mary and Nelson, youthful residents of Austin, were immersed in their bustling lives yet constrained by time. Their aspiration was to savor nutritious, cost-effective, and conveniently obtainable meals. This led them to embark on the initial phases of conceptualizing a place that aligned with their aspirations. The only missing piece was a name. From the assortment of possibilities, the name “Honest Mary’s” surfaced. Following consultations with friends, the unanimous verdict became unmistakable: Honest Mary’s stood as the perfect choice.
In 2017, Mary and Nelson introduced their inaugural establishment at the Arboretum. Subsequently, in early 2020, the Rosedale branch followed suit. Two years down the line, Andrew Wiseheart, a close friend and experienced restaurateur, joined as a co-owner, injecting fresh momentum into the venture. The year 2023 marked the unveiling of their latest outpost in Cedar Park, with ambitious plans for further expansion.

The Arboretum location is my favorite due to its proximity to my workplace. I frequently visit, opting to either enjoy my meal on-site or take it back to the office. Among the array of enticing options, my go-to selection is unquestionably the Smoky Poblano signature bowl.
Championing the cause of accessible clean eating, Honest Mary’s boasts an array of both signature and customizable bowls. Patrons begin their culinary journey by selecting a protein, be it tofu or chicken, followed by a base like grains or greens, accompanied by cooked vegetables, toppings, and a sauce.
Nelson articulates Honest Mary’s ultimate ambition as fostering the growth of patrons and team members alike, cultivating the finest versions of themselves through the medium of nourishing cuisine, acts of compassion, and genuine concern for others. I love Austin because we have so many entrepreneurs that follow their dream, open a business and are successful!
