1940: Bugs Bunny debuts July 27 in the Warner Bros. cartoon “A Wild Hare.”

1775: The U.S. Postal System, under Postmaster Ben Franklin, is established on July 26.

1588: The English Navy defeats the mighty Spanish Armada on July 29.
