It’s fun to look back over the years and see the significance of certain dates. Here’s a few to check out! I had no idea that Superman made a debut in 1938!

1982: On April 19, NASA names Sally Ride the first female American astronaut.

1970: On April 22, millions of Americans observe the first Earth Day.

1970: After a terrifying on-board ordeal, Apollo 13 returns to Earth safely April 17.

1938: Superman debuts April 18 in the first issue of Action Comics.

1908: The U.S. Army Reserve is created April 23 by President Teddy Roosevelt.

1892: On April 19, the first annual Boston Marathon is held.

1775: On April 18, Paul Revere rides to warn Americans: “The British are coming!”

1524: On April 17, Martin Luther is excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

1492: On April 16, Columbus contracts with Spain to find a western route to Asia.
