I feel so blessed to live in Austin where great projects like; the Waterloo Greenway (a 1.5 mile park system) is in the works. This is a significant public-private partnership between the City of Austin and the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy (a non-profit organization whose mission is to create and maintain an extraordinary urban park system).
Once completed the 35 acres of connected green space – from 15th street along downtown’s eastern edge to lady Bird Lake will display a wild array of natural and cultural destinations. The vision to link our environment, arts, health and adventure nurtures authentic and enriching experiences that reflect our city’s diversity. There are a series of geographic milestones to complete to accomplish meeting the 2026 goal. They are well on their way with Symphony Square, Waterloo Park and Moody Amphitheater now open!
Connecting with the ongoing transformation of Waller Creek is available to all Austinities. From November 12, 2021 – November 21 the Creek Show is back and the price is right…..FREE! Just reserve a ticket and bring to the night you have selected. Just click on the link in the website.
Prepare to be wowed with the display of illuminated art created by teams of visionary artists, landscape architects and designers in the newly renovated Waterloo Park, the first phase of the Waterloo Greenway park system. I found it was a wonderful chance to see the impressive artistic creations and enjoy the music, food vendors on a November evening with family!
Each year, artists explore different themes related to Waller Creek that range from hydrology (science dealing with properties of the earth’s water and relation to land) and beyond. This year one of my favorites was the “so-glo” sponsored by 3M. The inflatable art was inspired by the many thousands of new plants installed in Waterloo Park.
Waterloo Park opened August 2021. It you are familiar with the park or just discovering it take time to visit the Creek Show Lounge to learn more about upcoming cultural, educational and environmental programs and membership opportunities. Take the time explore what Austin offers, benefiting us all!
This is my entry to the 2021 Thanksgiving Challenge in Active Rain hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS.
