Austin 2021 Estimated Property Tax Mailed Out

It’s that time of the year, by now you should have received your property appraised values for 2021 with your proposed property tax. You can check your values and updates on the following links for Travis and Williamson counties:

Travis County

Williamson County

The Texas Legislature does not set the tax amount of your local taxes. Your property tax burden is decided by your locally elected officials. The appraisal district only determines the value of your property.

I’m receiving calls to help homeowners protest their estimated property values and you have until May 17, 2021 to file a protest. Hearings will begin on June 1, 2021. It never hurts to protest your value in order to minimize your tax burden. I can provide you with the sold data but my advice is to call a third party and use them regularly each year for better results than self-protesting. This approach when used every year appears to maximize your tax savings because of consistency.

In Texas your 2021 property tax is due by December 31, 2021 if you want to deduct your property taxes in 2021. You (if you own your home free and clear) or your lender will receive your bill the end of October or November. You have until January 31, 2022 before property taxes will be considered delinquent.

Don’t forget if you turn 65 or are in need of a disability exemption this year be sure and apply for the Over 65 and Disability Exemption.
