Austin is a vibrant, eclectic city that offers so many extraordinary shared experiences to delight and surprise audiences! I went with my daughter, husband and their King Charles “Bella” to walk Waller Creek in Waterloo Greenway to see the Creek Show on the last day of this free community event featuring local Artists and Designers.
This outreach program was so well done and thrilled the massive groups of people with their outstanding light-based art installations. What a celebration while educating the community on the importance and impact of transforming Waller Creek and the impact it will have on Austin’s social, cultural and ecological future.
There were many favorites of mine including the “Downstream Upscale!” It used more than 17,000 hotel shampoo bottles and re-purposed them into a colorful wave of glowing lanterns! The symbolism is not lost on the rapidly growing tourism economy showing how many can be used in one day!

Another favorite of mine was the “Meander.” Walking under the dangling tendrils it transformed a lifeless piece of in-fracture into a mystical and captivating experience. Its crazy how it creates a moment of discovery and wonderment!

“The Ghost Boat” was my absolute favorite because it used an Austin folk tale to evoke the feeling of a bygone era and inspire contemplation of the role the creek played in Austin’s past.

Once Upon A Time…..
An Austinite, traveler of waters,
got lost in the beauty of the creek
and went missing.
To this day, nobody knows their whereabouts,
but on a quiet misty morning,
you can hear the sound of paddles dipping in the water,
and a ghostly glow in the distance.
