Summertime Fun at The Oasis on Lake Travis

Many say Lake Travis is not just a lake, it’s a lifestyle. Guests from all over the world have it on their bucket list to come enjoy the sunsets at The Oasis which are breathtaking. For us locals we probably take the venue for granted but always make time to enjoy margaritas and nachos on one of the decks waiting to hear the bell ring and cheer when the sun goes down! Many refer to the Oasis as “The Sunset Capital of Texas.”

Every restaurant has a story but this local icon started out as an idea by it’s owner Beau Theriot (he still lives next door in a luxurious home). He never imagined when in 1982 he opened the Oasis his vision would morph into a waterfront, outdoor mall and entertainment venue that sits 400 feet above Lake Travis’ Southeast shore.

I love just walking around the shops and enjoying all the art work strategically placed throughout the center. The whole complex has become a destination entertainment venue with some of the the Lake’s most iconic restaurants and shopping added over the years.

Everywhere you meander you come across fountains and lush looking greenery and flowers. The feel always reminds me of our trips to Italy and to think this venue is right in our backyard in Austin on Lake Travis!

I love this little cowboy with his dog just whiling away the hours on a summer day.

On June 1, 2005 a fire destroyed the Oasis restaurant due to lighting but it was rebuilt bigger and better and every time you visit something new has been added. I’m always amazed at the additions. I’ve been to functions in the banquet rooms, an agent in our office was married with the sun setting at their backs…so many good memories !

Shopping and leisurely strolling through the outdoor mall is always fun but you have to make time for some food and definitely margaritas on the deck watching the sunset.

So many levels to choose from and plenty of misting fans to cool you off on our hot summer Texas days and nights.

But the view is worth it!

The music is incredible and a wonderful friend and colleague John Lockhart whose band has become a household word in Austin “Suede” draws a huge crowd!  They are pure magic on stage! As their website says they are explosive, energizing and outrageously fun! It’s all true and John is an inspiration for some many reasons!

This is my third entry into the Active Rain July challenge of showing off our city by showing you one of our most iconic places to go for summertime fun.  Thank you Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 for hosting.
