It’s that time of year again and we can expect as many as 7,000 runners to participate in the 24th annual 3M Half Marathon. Plan on a hilly race as you take to running in the streets and through neighborhoods in our Texas Capital this Sunday January 20, 2019.
The good thing is the hills are mostly downhill. You’ll start at a peak elevation of almost 900 feet above sea level in the northern part of the city on Stonelake Boulevard, near Baby Acapulco Restaurant & Cantina. The course will wind around Braker Lane, Burnet Lane, Longhorn Boulevard and United Drive and finish at just above 500 feet at Waterloo Park.
Runners will be able to view the full spectrum of what Austin has to offer along the course – a mix of funky neighborhoods, the unique downtown Austin area and the University of Texas, whose main tower in the center of campus looks out over the entire city.
Many organizers of this event say “the 3M Marathon is one of the Texas capital city’s largest distance road racing events. The race follows a fast, fun, mostly downhill course through an urban setting. This chip-timed perennial Austin favorite offers one of the best goodie bags in distance running!” That might be enough to make it worthwhile right?
The predicted weather on the day of the race (Jan. 20) is expected to be an average low of 41 degrees and average high of 62 degrees..perfect weather!
Make it happen..you’ll want to part of the Austin annual 3 M Half Marathon! The photo above is my beautiful daughter-in-law, Erika Dunham, who ran in 2014..now she’s running in other marathons around the country.
