Happy Veterans Day to everyone who is a retired, present and future Veteran!
Look at that engaging smile…… This is my Geno when he served in the Navy in the 50’s. I didn’t know him then as we were on different paths in life but I’m Thankful each day for the almost 25 years I will be married to him in February 2019.
Gene served on the USS Allen M. Summer DD-692 in the mid to late 50’s. It’s amazing how serving your country can lead you to meet so many people in all walks of life. All these experiences shape your way of thinking when you’re trying to make a difference for your country and make sense out of what you are fighting for.
There were two men in particular Geno holds dear in his heart today. He tells many stories of triumphs, tragedies and honors he experienced while on active duty. Both men died and to this day he remembers them, keeps their names alive and often asks himself why did he make it?
Our service men and women deserve all he respect and honor we can bestow upon them so please take time to say thank you to anyone you meet or see that are veterans. We think to salute our heroes today but its really something we should think about all year long.
“While only one day of the year is dedicated solely to honoring our Veterans, Americans must never forget the scarifies than many of our fellow countrymen have made to defend our country and protect our freedoms.” Randy Neugerbauer
Duty, Honor, Country. Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be.” Douglas MacArther
“Honoring the sacrifices many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy is the very foundation of Veterans Day.” Charles B. Rangel
