Thankful for the Heart Hospital of Austin

Thank you Debbie Reynolds  for hosting our annual Thanksgiving Challenge – Post What you are grateful for November challenge. Of course we should recognize and acknowledge things in our life that are blessings all year long but November is an appropriate time for reflection.

I am fortunate to have so many things to be grateful for but considering the challenges we’ve encountered in October the one that is fresh in my mind is the Heart Hospital of Austin.

My Geno fell on October 13th outside one of our favorite restaurants at the Domain and ended up with a visit to the ER several days later to find he broke his tibia where we ended up at Texas Orthopedics only to discover they would not put a cast or boot on his leg due to his COPD, Congestive Heart Failure and his Neuroprathy.

Due to the trauma of the leg break it caused a COPD attack and Friday night at midnight the 19th I called 911 and Geno found himself on a ride down to the Heart Hospital of Austin. ER was full and he wasn’t moved to a room until later the next day.

The many breathing treatments helped get his breathing under control and being on oxygen made a big difference. After several ultrasounds the doctors felt there was a minuscule clot in his right leg and began preventative treatment. Everyone was so helpful and the nurses on duty were great..after 4 days Geno was ready to come home!

Geno’s red motorized wheel chair was delivered the Saturday after he made his trip to the Heart Hospital. It was waiting for him on his return and is proving to be a God sent in his mobility around the house.

I was planning on going to Boston for the CRS convention for November first. Isn’t it something how intuitive one can be about knowing it wasn’t going meant to be? We are in preservation mode with physical therapy and nurses parading in and out of the house. Its all looking brighter and I thank Heart Hospital of Austin for being there for us in our time of need.
