IL Brutto ~ "Foodie" Friday 9/14/18

It’s going to be another rainy weekend so plan to get out and think Italian food one night! I’ve got just the place for you to try…..Remember the movie “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”?  Well, this restaurant in East Austin is a nod to that iconic western. Great food, atmosphere and ambiance…what more could you ask for?

IL BRUTTO                              https://www.ilbruttoaustin.com/

IL Brutto serves authentic Italian cuisine on E. 6th St. located in East Austin. Executive Chef, Erind Halilaj, has a deep passion for great food and the actual experience of dining.  Her goal is to bring genuine Italian cuisine to Austin. By that she wants you to know this is what you would eat if you were in Italy  presented in exactly the same way. IL Brutto’s menu is equivalent to the food of Italy as a whole. They are respectful of tradition and that means using fresh ingredients and classic techniques.

Here is a sampling of their menus….On the Salumi E Formaggi menu, there’s Burrata with tomato confit, pistachios and mint…Salumi – with prosciutto di parma DOP, prosciutto cotta and Speck Dell’alto Adige – a dry cured, lightly smoked ham … and Crostini with Creamy Buratta and Sciacca Anchovies & Eggplant.  You might want to try something from the Antipasti menu…Caponata Siciliana with eggplant, raisins, almonds, sweet vinegar and crostini. On the Pizza menu there’s Prosciutto Di Parma 24 DOP with San Marzano sauce, mozarella and arugula…Sausage with Mccleery Farms Pork Sausage, roasted peppers, red onion, mozzarella and thyme…and Margherita with San Marzano sauce, mozarella di bufala and basil.  On the Primi menu there’s Squid Ink Tagliolini with fresh clams, mussels, sweet tomato and marjoram…Ravioli with sheep’s milk ricotta, curly kale, butter and hazelnut…and Pappardelle with lamb ragu, sangiovese, carrot and rosemary. The Secondi menu has Beef Tenderloin with roasted spring onions, grape tomato, slow cooked eggplant, blueberry coulis and thyme…or Red Snapper with cherry tomato, taggiasche olives, butternut squash, fava beans and marsala.  Save some room because the Dessert menu has Tiramisù with mascarpone marsala mousse, espresso lady fingers and cinnamon chocolate streusel…or try the Chocolate Caprese Torte with blood orange, clementine, fior di latte and gelato.
