Who would have guessed there is a State Surplus Storefront located in East Austin at 6506 Bolm Road. It’s a treasure hunter’s dream, especially those who love garage sales and it’s open to the public from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. Prices are dirt cheap and new items are brought in daily.
The space is 50,000 square feet which holds a lot of stuff and believe it or not it is chocked full of items! If you ever wondered what happens to all the stuff left at airports or seized by TSA at security checkpoints in Texas..it all ends up in Austin at the Storefront!
There is no advertising; it’s been there for years enjoying many regular bargain hunter customers. It has to be one of Austin’s best kept secrets!
Who gets the revenue from the sales? I called and talked to a very nice gentleman and he said first proceeds go to the Texas Facilities Commission and then if there is any money left over it trickles over to Texas State funds. I’m not sure how they determine when there is money left over or how they use this money but 50,000 Square feet of shopping is bound to generate a nice profit!
