Restaurants change hands and new ideas are incorporated while still retaining it’s original flavor. A number of years ago I wrote about this restaurant but now with new owners, I feel its time to highlight this Austin Icon in another Foodie Friday. The chefs at Foreign & Domestic have maintained their passion for great food. Growing up, they loved watching their moms and grandmothers cooking traditional food every day. As you pull up to the restaurant, you’ll notice the large winged pig that is painted on the wall. Inside, it’s simple and comfortable with a counter that will remind you of a New York diner.
A sampling of what you’ll find on their seasonal menus…on the Dinner menu: Slow roasted duroc pork with peaches, squash & a tomato corn ragout…and Parisian gnocchi with green garbanzo, morel, asparagus and koji butter. There is also a Nose to Tail Tasting Menu that has 4 courses: Veal Sweetbread Roulade with tomato sherry caramel & herbs…Black Pasta with pork head ragu & blood bottarga…Seared Lamb Heart with risotto rouge, glazed shallot and watercress…Fois Gras Mousse with cherry jam & peanut glass. The Dessert menu has a Carrot & Cardamon Custard with coffee, dark chocolate & fig leaf…and…a Strawberry Buttermilk Pie with meringue & pretzel dust.
