Steel City Pops ~ "Foodie" Friday 6/29/18

Last week was the official start to Summer!  So, if you’re out and about this weekend and need to cool down, head over to the Domain in NW Austin! This is a happening part of town and you need to check the new restaurants on Rock Rose Place..you won’t be disappointed especially with my latest choice. It’s not very visible but look for #156 and you will have landed at the right place!

STEEL CITY POPS                           https://steelcitypops.com

It all started when owners Jim & Amy Watkins while on a family vacation stopped into a store selling Mexican paletas (pops).  They fell in love with these special gourmet pops and their dream began. They opened their first store in 2012 in Homewood, Alabama.  We are so glad they did, because they recently opened their 2nd Austin store on Rock Rose Ave in the Domain in NW Austin.

What is so wonderful about Jim & Amy is their desire to help their local communities.  They partner with locally and globally minded charities and have seen wonderful things happen through the efforts of their company and customers.

Their pops are made from the freshest all-natural or certified organic ingredients that are harvested locally wherever that is possible.

One of the organizations important to them is NeverThirst, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make clean, potable water accessible in third world and underdeveloped nations. As a way to invest in their mission, Steel City Pops bottles and sells Provid water donating 100% of the profits to NeverThirst.  You can read all about NeverThirst at www.neverthirstwater.org.

Here is a sampling of what you’ll find on their menu:

On the Fruity Pops menu:  there’s the Arnold Palmer – a delicious mix of sweet tea & lemonade, there’s also a Lime and a Canteloupe pop – each of which tastes just like the fruit.  On the Creamy menu: there’s Strawberry Cream – tastes like a strawberry shortcake, the Vanilla Bean – tastes like smooth, rich, homemade vanilla ice cream and the Chai Latte  that packs a punch of Far East spices. On the Cookie Pops menu: there’s the Coffee Brownie – a perfect blend of coffee & chocolate, the Banana Pudding – this one tastes like one of the South’s most cherished desserts and The Key Lime Pie that tastes like a fluffy, tart Key Lime Pie.

So, when it gets too hot and you need to cool off, stop into your local Steel City Pops and chill a while.  Here’s a video of how the pops are made:
