Jared Moon is the son of one of our residents in Canyon Creek. He is in the Biomedical Engineering Class of 2020 at UT in Austin. He was top student of McCombs Summer Institute in 2017.
Jared is excited to be one of the many wonderful counselors this upcoming summer for UT’s Camp Kesem where kids, whose parents are affected by cancer, can attend in the summer for FREE. One of his friends, a former Canyon Creek neighbor, attended this camp prior to the passing of his mom.

Jared will proudly tell you in his own words why he chose Camp Kesem:
“At the same age in which the most pressing matter in my life would have been something so light-hearted and frivolous as who’s my favorite baseball player, there are children watching the people who raise them confront the formidable reality of cancer. After becoming acquainted with Camp Kesem and its mission, how could I not help? My reason for joining was simple, to help other amazing college students provide an opportunity for these kids to express themselves in a fun, inclusive, and genuine summer camp environment for FREE.
A parent’s cancer provides a sobering reality that I believe has the potential to be perilous to the development of a child which inspires me towards the direction of Camp Kesem so that I can be that pillar that stands strong for these kids so that they can keep their heads up high through a parent’s cancer and beyond. Camp Kesem provides me the opportunity to do just that, and my friend Max Williams’ testimony can attest to it.”
To learn more about Jared here are some activities he is involved with:
1) Global Medical Training which sends college students abroad for medical mission trips to assist physicians in running rural clinics in underserved areas
2) VP Finance/Student Engineering Council Representative for the Biomedical Engineering Society which brings in lecturers, hosts engineering case/design competitions, and provides many other opportunities for students in biomedical engineering
3) Pre-Health Committee Alpha Epsilon Delta a pre-health honors society that tries to foster a strong pre-health community and to provide professional opportunities to its members
4) Camp Kesem Counselor
5) Diller Lab Research Assistant; study the effects of thermal stimulation on human thermoregulation and blood flow throughout body
We don’t hear enough of the good things our young adults are involved in. Many are finding passion in contributing in ways that make a difference for so many. In turn, what a tremendous feeling of pride and sense of accomplishment these young people are experiencing in serving others.
I had the pleasure of handling the sale of Jared’s family home last year in Canyon Creek when they moved to another home within the community. So many families in Canyon Creek are raising their children to be responsible, caring adults, the education starts at home. Kudos to Jared!
