You need to buy a house son!

Lisa Von Domek is hosting our February challenge “It’s February and love is in the air. We are sharing some of our best-loved transactions which are easy to do for me. The first one to pop in my head was representing my son, John Dunham on his first home in 2001 when he was 25 and single.

John graduated from Clemson and was working at Dell computer in 2001. He was living in an apartment and when talking one day I told him you need to buy a house and stop making mortgage payments for your landlord! It didn’t take him long to realize he was ready to be a property owner!

First step pre-approval, I introduced him to one of my favorite lenders.

Second step where to look? John knew the area of town he wanted to live (a good thing to know) and we set out looking at homes and came across a good fit in December 2000, ultimately closing January 2001! His sister wondered why he wanted this more eclectic part of town closer in. Simple answer: he was single and the suburbs were not a fit for his lifestyle.

Made an offer, negotiated and the house was his!

Inspections were completed, repairs negotiated, on to closing.

Working with my son was an amazing experience. I was awed by his level of maturity and confidence he displayed throughout the whole process. I knew the process was overwhelming to him at first but he trusted me and asked the right questions, grasping the reality of what he was undertaking.

The day of closing was a proud moment as I watched him sign on the dotted line! There was probably a little buyer remorse but he knew in his heart this was a smart purchase for his future.

The little boy I so enjoyed growing up become a man. I experienced a tidal wave of mixed emotions of gratitude and realization he was indeed an extraordinary and responsible young adult. He is now a Broker and owner of his own real estate firm Juice Homes. His clients look to him for direction and guidance as do the agents in his office. His clients are fiercely loyal and he is well-respected in the industry and his commuity. I swell with pride knowing I played a  part in his journey into the real estate world and becoming an amazing husband, father, son, friend and business man.

Your son will hold your hand only for a little while.

But he will hold your heart for a life time…….unknown author
