Santa Catarina Mexican Restaurant ~ "Foodie" Friday 12/8/17

We had snow in Austin last night! Hard to believe but it happened (actually a light dusting) and everyone went wild with joy! I was on my way to a Christmas party and it just added to the ambiance! This week-end I’ve got a great recommendation to meet family and friends to spread some holday cheer. Think fresh Mexican food and I’ve got just the spot for you in 2 neighboring cities, take your pick!

SANTA CATARINA MEXICAN RESTAURANT         http://www.santacatarinarestaurant.com/

The owners of Santa Catarina have a homespun admiration for fresh food from the interior of Mexico.  That is evident with the way their dishes are prepared using on the freshest seafood, pork and beef tenderloin.  Many of the seafood dishes use fresh drum caught straight from the Texas Gulf Coast.

Each item you find on the menu if packed with rich flavors, so much so that you can taste the pride and passion that went into preparing it.  All of their drinks are prepared with fresh squeezed limes, fresh fruit and agave nectar.  The tortillas are homemade and served steaming hot.

A sampling of their menus:  For appetizers: Cazuela con Pollo – chicken topped with mole sauce and melted cheese served on a hot skillet with homemade tortillas…Totopos – Mexican style nachos with crispy corn tortillas covered with refried beans and cheese served with pickled red onions and jalapeños.

From the Grill: Fajitas – all are served with homemade corn tortillas, black beans, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and cheese…Mayitas – Yucatan style fajitas of shrimp or chicken marinated in achiote and grilled, served with beans, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and cheese.

The house specialties menu has Camarones Veracruzana – Gulf jumbo shrimp sautéed with olives, tomatoes, capers, onions, jalapenños, garlic and olive oil served with rice…Filete de Res – an 8 oz. Black Angus beef tenderloin steak grilled and served with roasted peppers and goat cheese butter, grilled vegetables, rice and guacamole…Cochinita Pibil – Chef/owner Francisco’s family recipe of slow cooked pork shoulder marinated in achiote and wrapped in a banana leaf, served with rice, black beans, guacamole, pickled onions and jalapeño creamy sauce.

Stop in anytime at either location: 1310 RR 620 South in Lakeway or 500 Cypress Creek Rd in Cedar Park, they are open for brunch, lunch and dinner – es delicioso!
