Thankful for my little girl who has grown to be a loving mom

Thank you Debbie Reynolds for this Thanksgiving challenge! This is my #6 thankful entry. I’m writing these in no particular order..just what pops in my head each day!

I’ve always loved the quote “A daughter is a miracle that never ceases to be miraculous.” That is how I feel about my daughter Melissa. She took her sweet time in entering this world as my first child (25 hours in labor) but when she emerged…. what a bundle of energy! She was always on the go, loved to play outside, dance, swim, play dress up, help me bake and never met a stranger. Her nickname was bandit as she was always moving things to the trash can! If you couldn’t find something just check the trash.

Melissa was an excellent student and very creative! She subscribes to the policy: “best way out is through!” She will always find an answer as she is a problem solver. If she doesn’t know the answer she knows a resource to find it. She is not afraid of tackling anything and does’nt mind learning a lesson along the way. The quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson truly reflects my Melissa: “What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside you.”

No one could ask for a better mom than Melissa. She’s not a push over and as long as you are open and honest there isn’t a compromise that can’t be made. Raising 3 children, Hailey, Trey and Maggie is a full time job! She and her husband Russell make quite the team in creating the right atmosphere and bringing the best out in their children. Melissa is a wonderful wife, daughter and friend to so many.

Melissa was a school teacher as I was and now holds a real estate license and is learning the business. What a great job she is doing as she transitions from heading up so many charitable, civic and school activities into an awesome agent so willing to serve her clients! Her organization skills are an asset as well as her desire to live her life doing things for the right reason.

I’ve always felt the single most important contribution to this world is being a mom. Melissa demonstrates in all she does she feels the same way. I’ve kept a card she gave me one Mother’s Day. Looking at it really makes me smile, feeling good all over:

Being a great

Mom

Is not a skill

That can be acquired

at some university.

It can’t be learned from a book

or measured

by a salary

Yet being a great mom

Is probably the single

most important contribution

anybody could make

to this world.

I should know.

Because I have you,

a truly great mom.

I can’t imagine

a force more powerful,

a love more valuable,

or a gift more lasting.

My grateful heart

is living proof of that.

“A daughter is just a little girl who grows up to be your best friend.”

“When I tell you I love you, I don’t say it out of habit or to make conversation. I say it to remind me that you are the best thing that ever happened to me.”
