Thank you Debbie Reynolds for the 12 days of Thanksgiving contest! It’s a good one to hold at this time of year!
Here is a very recent picture of me and my siblings! November 11th, 2017. We are celebrating our sister Susie’s 75th birthday at a lovely celebration in LA that Susie’s two daughters and step daughters so carefully planned as a surprise!
My brother John lives in Pittsburgh PA with his wife Kathy. They have 2 grown children with a daughter getting married this December.
The 3 of us grew up in upstate N.Y. in Scotia, NY just outside of Schenectady. We lived in the same house while we grew up and then each went off to college. Our parents didn’t move until we were all grown, married and had children.
We lived on 2 acres with a brook running around the perimeter of our lot. We damned creeks, climbed trees, built forts in the woods, played baseball, kickball and football in our yard. Building snow igloos, having knock out drag out snowball fights, sledding, ice skating and skiing were favorite past times. Teachers loved letting us host school picnics in our backyard and I wrangled mom and dad to hold pre-prom parties at our home.
We helped mom with her huge garden and then canned much of the fruits of our labor for the winter months. Roasted marshmallows and making smores was a treat. We raked leaves and jumped in piles that were ready to be bagged or burned, noses running from the smell of fall and crispness of the air. Sitting on our front porch when it rained and hearing the brook gurgle was so calming. Helping dad put up Christmas decorations with cut-outs and so many lights was always a fun project!
So many memories with my siblings…. thankful we are still good friends and enjoy reminiscing many delightful and humorous times when getting together.
