I just got back from LA celebrating my sister Susie’s 75th Birthday! Her daughters planned this 6 months ago and what a lovely week-end of honoring Susie on her special day. I live in Austin and my brother and wife live in Pittsburgh and we made sure to come to celebrate this special occasion.
Susie, better known as “Mama Sue” to her blended family, was truly surprised. We were all together 3 years ago when Sue married her next door neighbor in Simi Valley CA after moving away for 10 years to live in Pittsburgh. Sue’s first husband passed away when he was only 31 years from cancer, leaving her with 2 small girls. She lived next to a family with 2 girls who grew up together and remained best friends. The next door neighbor’s wife passed away after Sue moved to Pittsburgh. Rod and Sue were always good friends.
Good things happen to good people. Sue and Rod reconnected and developed a warm and loving relationship blending their family of girls! Rod calls her his Susie-Q.
My sister was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 8 years ago and is now in stage 4 of this disease. Her faith and spirit are an inspiration to all of us! She follows the rule of “keep moving” and even has a trainer for boxing which is a great way to keep her strength up.
Sue lives a life of gratitude and is a perfect example of one of Zig Zigglar’s quotes:
“The greatest source of happiness is the ability to be grateful at all times.”
I’m blessed to have a wonderful sister who constantly inspires me and lives a life of faithfulness. She teaches me the true meaning of living a purpose driven life of happiness, caring and giving back to others.
My second entry into Debbie Reynolds “12 days of Thanksgiving” 2017 contest in Active Rain.
