Owner Gianfranco Mastrangelo knows a lot about Italian restaurants. He grew up in a restaurant family in New York followed by studying and working with pizza makers in Sicily, Rome and Naples. (Here’s a little trivia for you – Quattro gatti translates to four cats which is an Italian phrase that refers to a small group of people). Quattro Gatti is a family run Italian restaurant with a rustic atmosphere in an historic 1876 building in downtown Austin just steps away from the Texas State Capitol. The restaurant specializes in traditional cuisine, pasta and pizza. Their cozy bar offers classic Italian cocktails and they’ve got a sizable wine list that represents Italy’s diverse regions.
Here is a sampling of what you’ll find on the menu at Quattro Gatti: On the Bruschette & Focacce menu there’s Prosciutto di Parma Brushette made with 2 year aged cured Italian ham…on the Focacce menu, there’s Focaccia Rosmarino made with rosemary, seas salt and extra virgin olive oil. The Primi menu has Gnocci Sorrentina homemade with tomato, basil and mozzarella and Linguine alle Vongole with class, garlic and chili. On the Secondi menu you’ll find Polpette al Sugo – meatballs with tomato sauce, Salmone Arrosto – oven roasted salmon and Bistecca di Manzo – sliced angus ribeye. Finish your dinner with something from the Dolci menu – Tiramisu, Cannolo Siciliano or how about a plate of perfectly sweet homemade biscotti along with a glass of vin santo for dipping? Whatever you order, you’re in for a wonderful dining experience at this Open Table 2016 diners choice award winner.
