ACL and Formula One is over! Whew…We can actually move once again in Austin and before Halloween takes over downtown why not enjoy a night out at a restaurant that brings an evolution in the concept of Food and Wine with a twist: culture, atmosphere and quality! Do you like Italian food? Then you’ll love this recommendation!
IT’S ITALIAN CUCINA http://itsitaliancucina.com/
According to their website, It’s Italian Cucina is known for their superb cuisine, seamless service and intelligent wine collection. Their philosophy is simple and straight forward – use the best ingredients, including local from meats, produce and seafood to Italian imported cheeses, cold cuts, olive, oil and more. Then serve them with joy and their many unusual ingredients will surprise you.
The menu has the best of Piemontese style Italian food as well as specialties from Northern regions like Lombardy, Fruili, Valle d’Aosta and Veneto. They offer a wide range of specialty dishes from beef to seafood, risotto to pasta with the goal of offering delicious food with simple ingenuity and cosmopolitan sophistication.
Along the walls of their Italian Market, wines are resting 3 or 4 bottles deep on shelves that stretch almost to the ceiling. A bar serves coffee, wine on tap and other beverages nearby. Here’s the cool part: It’s Italian Market is permitted as a winery, so it allows for people to get wines from Sicily bottled and corked on-site, whether they bring in their own bottles or buy one there. In Italy, you take your jug and go to a winery and fill it up. To keep it legal, he has to seal it.
They have a wine tasting room where you can go in and enjoy wines all day. They bottle and cork the bottles charging you $2 for the bottle and $10 for the wine, but, bring the bottles back for a refill and you only get charged for the wine. There are wine tasting events on Fridays.
The rest of the store shelves are devoted to food: everything from San Marzano tomatoes from Napoli, white truffles from Alba or creamy cheeses from Piedmont. Food is a passion for owner Al Fini and wants all his customers to feel that love. He wants it to feel like home, so, it’s built like it a kitchen – warm and welcoming – more like a house than a store.
A sampling of their menu: On the appetizer menu – Pane con Oliva e Erbe: bread with olive oil & herbs and Bruschette Pomodoro – tomatoes, garlic & olive oil. There are cheese plates like the Nord Italia with tallegio, bel paese and gorgonzola dolce. On the Primi Piatti menu there’s Tonnarelli Bolognese: pasta with traditional Bolognese sauce and Agnolotti: osso buco filled with pomodor butter sage sauce. The Secondi Piatti offers Pollo Cacciatore: chicken hunter style in a tomato base and Vitello Tonnato: veal sautéed with tuna in an egg & caper sauce. And, don’t forget the Dolce menu with Torta di Crema: cream cake with amaretto cookies and Sciarita Frutta: fresh fruit with mascarpone & chocolate.
