Aviary Wine & Kitchen ~ "Foodie" Friday 10/13/17

It’s Friday the 13th and the last one of the year (according to Nina Hollander, I read her post this morning) so why not go out an celebrate! If you’re a wine lover you’ll love this restaurant! From an eclectic furniture store with a small wine bar to a full scale restaurant with a wide-ranging wine list, this is a place you need to try!

AVIARY WINE & KITCHEN            http://aviarywinekitchen.com/

Aviary Wine & Kitchen has reopened after months of renovations, wine and food tastings, to a full service restaurant where wine remains at the heart of it.  Their menu is a pairing-focused food menu and you will be guided through one of the best dining experiences of your life.

It’s important to them to be able to show the diner how much better their dining experience can be with the right wine. On the wine menu, you won’t see a list of fancy French names, prices and dates.  The wine is categorized based on emotions, a feeling or a person that can represent a whole style of wine.  Some of the names you’ll see as a wine category when you open the menu: You might be feeling a little like Jayne Mansfield and want a nice pink wine… or maybe you feel a little sexy and want something Etta James that is sultry and smooth.  The David Bowie section has bubbly wines like prosecco and champagne. The Steve McQueen category has big & bold wines like an Australian cabernet sauvignon.  And, of course, there’s a Willie Nelson category (this is Austin after all) and you’ll find vintage wines that have stood the test of time.

Now on to the food menu, which is primarily Mediterranean, it is divided into 3 sections: Peck, Graze and Feast.  What you choose from simply depends on how hungry you are. On the Peck menu – there’s Seasoned Potato Chips with salt & pepper taters, Pork Rillettes with escabeche and a baguette and house spiced Marcona almonds.  The Graze menu has Chicken & Pork Sausage with an herb medley, kraut and grain mustard…a Lamb Burger with harissa aioli and pickled cucumber served on a house bun…Risotto with a seafood stock, gulf shrimp, manchego and herbs.  On the Feast menu – there’s Whole Fish with anchovy buerre blanc, preserved meyer and herbs…The Bird – half a chicken and roasted vegetable and The Texas Beef – a grilled Texas cut with chermoula and pomme puree.

On their website there is a Groucho Marx quote: “I shall drink no wine before it’s time! OK, it’s time…”
