We’ve been watching the construction of this new restaurant in the Domain Northside for many months and so glad to see it’s opening this Saturday! You’ll find it right next door to a favorite Italian restaurant of mine, Travernas. Check it out and enjoy the sights and sounds of all that is offered in the Domain! The Tex-Mex menu sounds like it’s guaranteed to please and love the family history and tradition behind the name!

Cyclone Anaya’s is an offshoot of the Houston chain and has been serving Houston for almost 50 years. The Austin restaurant is not related to the Houston restaurants. Owner Rico Valencia says they chose the name to emphasize their family’s tradition and heritage. Cyclone Anaya’s Tex Mex Cantina is an ‘Austin-centric concept that will focus on food, drinks and spirits.’
A little history of Cyclone Anaya (the late Jesus Anaya) was a wrestler who started his professional career at the age of 17 when he became the Champion of Mexico. He traveled to the US and won many awards and became quite the legend. After many championships he and his family entered the restaurant business, and after 50 years has become quite the legend. The family wants to keep the tradition alive with the taste of fine homemade Mexican food that has made them famous.
You’ll find traditional as well as modern on the menu. For appetizers, you could try the Quesadillas with cheese, pulled brisket, beef or chicken fajita, spinach or shrimp filled flour tortilla served with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo.
On the House Specials menu there’s Lobster Enchiladas with Mexican white cheese topped with chardonnay cream sauce and roasted pine nuts and served with cilantro rice and refried black beans.
On the Grill Menu there’s Spicy Grilled Salmon – a grilled Atlantic salmon with a spicy habañero mango salsa with cilantro rice and grilled vegetables. Save room for dessert and choose from Flan, Baked Sopapillas or Tres Leches.
