I’m so grateful to learn that Fireman Dryerman was founded by Brett Ketchum, a full time firefighter in Austin. He’s witnessed a handful of dryer fires and plenty of lint-filled dryers while repairing washers and dryers on his off duty time. Brett had a light bulb moment and knew he could offer an important service to consumers. Brett hired some of his favorite fellow Firefighters and Fireman Dryerman was born! I’ve often seen this issue of dryer vent cleaning on home inspections and am surprised sellers never realized they needed to clean their dryer vent. More importantly if they have had the vent cleaned they didn’t know to vacuum the dryer. Dissembling the dryer is the only way to access and remove debris! It’s the primary fire hazard because the majority of dryer fires are caused from the ignition of lint on and around the heating element…I guess for many…who knew?
Why do you need your dryer vent cleaned?
Cleaning the dryer vent removes lint buildup and allows proper airflow and better dryer efficiency. Your dryer vent is a pipe found in your wall, attic, subfloor or foundation that carries the heat and extra lint from your dryer to the exterior of your home. Lint from clothes, over time builds up inside the dryer vent thus blocking airflow and causes an unsafe amount of time and energy to dry your clothes. Other companies offer a similar service but they usually don’t take the extra step to clean difficult-to-access parts of a dryer where fires can start.
