This week-end its going to continue the heat wave and you might want to lay low staying cool in your pool or a neighborhood or club pool! Something light to eat should be on the menu. I’ve a twist to my Foodie Friday series: I want to share a new show premiered on The Food Network that will keep viewers tuning in to Austin every week! Cake artist Natalie Sideserf and her husband Dave are taking the world of cake sculpturing to new heights. The Sideserf Cake Studio is the focal point of this new TV series Texas Cake House. On their TV show, you get a behind-the-scenes look at how they create extraordinarily detailed cake sculptures that defy the ingredients they are made of in how realistic they look! Natalie’s lifelike and elaborate works of edible art have taken the internet by storm. Husband, Dave, quit his job to help her manage everything. They have committed themselves to creating the most amazing cakes ever baked. There are detailed and lifelike animal cakes that you could actually mistake for the real thing. On the premiere episode, a cake made of cricket flour (yes, real crickets) was made for an event to get kids excited about eating bugs!
The San Antonio zoo requested a jaguar cake for a VIP fundraiser to raise money for their new jaguar habitat. Saying it looked realistic is an understatement. In the episode called The Great Flying Cakes of Austin, they created a kitten with a parachute flying off of a scratching post at the request of a local art school. And, when IFLY called and wanted a cake, they created an iceberg with penguins on it and with a magnetic platform, they made an edible penguin that can fly at the top of the cake.
