Over four decades, the name “City-Wide” has become an iconic Austin event! Long time Austinites know when they see The City-Wide Garage Sale® advertised it means “City-Wide.” That’s okay newcomers you’ll get the hang of it….it’s like Loop I is MoPac!
In July 2017 The City-Wide Garage Sale® will be held Saturday and Sunday July 15 and 16th at the Palmer Events Center (if you can’t make it check out other months).
– Saturday 10am-5pm *8:30 am early shopper $12
– Sunday 11am-5 pm
– The cost is $7 – 12 and under gets in free
*Saturday only 8:30am early shopper entry $12
You need to understand the history of how this event was born to see why it continues to thrive and why so many look forward to it each year. Go back in time to 1977 when the gasoline shortage caused lines of cars to wait for their $10 gallon maximum purchase. So many people loved to go to garage sales over the weekend the idea was formed to have one location for all the garage sales!
Word spread like wild fire and individuals and no-profits were clamoring to hold their garage sale in a climate controlled venue which would go rain or shine at the old City Coliseum. In 2002 it was torn down and replaced by the Palmer Events Center.
What will you find? This is a vintage and collectible market!! The place for the unusual, the bargain and the downright weird! No imports, crafts, novelties or assorted new items! Its amazing there is always and ever-changing array of vintage and used treasures. You’ll find an eclectic mix of shoppers: Interior decorators, college students, set designers, wardrobe consultants, collectors and of course those just curious!
