This week’s Foodie Friday takes us to neighboring Georgetown, about 30 minutes outside of Austin. A lovely city with Victorian era downtown storefronts, antique street lights, brick walks lining the shaded downtown streets with more than 180 National Register historic homes and buildings. It is also the home of the oldest university in Texas, Southwestern University. And, while you’re visiting Georgetown – I’ve got a great restaurant for you to try.
WILDFIRE TEXAS http://www.wildfiretexas.com
There are 2 buildings that house the Wildfire constructed in 1920 where the City Hotel used to stand in the late 1890s. The restaurant has received many awards and exceptional reviews. Southern Living says “Wildfire puts spice in dining”…Time Magazine says “The Wildfire Grill is the reason to move to Georgetown” and Wildfire has been rated Excellent by Zagat.
Here’s a sampling of their menu – from Great Beginnings, you could try the Maple Glazed Crackling Pork Belly with a blackberry-chipotle port reduction or the Flamed Seared Bacon Wrapped Jumbo Scallops with mango-habanero bbq sauce, smoked corn apple relish and sweet potato cenavo… From The Pools of Broth menu there’s Roasted Corn Hickory Shrimp Chowder and Cantaloupe Gazpacho Prosciutto Soup.
On the From The Range Menu you could have a 12oz American Bison Strip Loin or a 20oz Bone-in Cowboy Ribeye; and add something from the Riding Companions menu like Diablo Jumbo Shrimp or Cascabel Jumbo Scallops. The Chef’s Chuck Box and Boot menu has Grilled Teal Duck Breast with goat cheese crepe, apricot-raspberry compote, port demi with asparagus & baby carrots. Or, you might like the Chimichurri Alpaca Striploin with chipotle mashers, maple bacon brussel sprouts, baked beets, goat cheese and Rojo mole.
From The Coop menu has a Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad with salsa ranch dressing, grilled zucchini and squash, corn tortilla, Oaxaca cheese & avocado or try the Cajun Rubbed Grilled Ahi Tuna with lemon crawfish beurre blanc, herbed wild rice pilaf and bacon garlic collard greens.
Finish off your meal with a tasty desert like the Old Texas Smore’s with Mexican graham cracker sweet bread, European dark chocolate and oak toasted marshmallows or the Bananas Wildfire with oak grilled glazed bananas served in a brandy snap cookie bowl with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, bittersweet chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Yummy!!
