The weather promises to be beautiful this weekend, warm sunny with blue skies in Austin! How about taking a short road trip for awesome food and ambiance? Feel like taking in some Texas history along with a few good brews? Grab some friends and family and head south on I-35 and to San Maros and explore…you might even try early morning breakast and then work your way back with some stop for shopping.

The Root Cellar Café is the only local brew pub in San Marcos where they serve exclusive micro brews created right there in their cellar! The Root Cellar, about a 45 minute ride from Austin, is located on the bottom floor of San Marcos’ historic Donaldson Building. If you’re heading to the San Antonio area, stop in the Root Cellar on the way for breakfast – they open at 7am! Start the day with a Baker’s Bagel smothered with honey cream cheese and grilled cinnamon apples or maybe some Brazilian French Toast made with homemade challah bread soaked in vanilla rum sauce and topped with cinnamon sugar. The lunch menu gives you plenty of choices – maybe a Holy Aioli sandwich of citrus marinated chicken breast with lettuce, tomatoes, aioli and provolone cheese on toasted ciabatta bread. Or a Brewhouse Burger with their house brewed candied bacon, cheddar cheese and grilled onion with a smokey brewhouse sauce on a toasted onion bun. From the dinner menu you can choose Blackened Tilapia – a grilled tilapia blackened with their house seasoning served with creamy parmesan and herbed risotto served with a tomato relish. Or, try the Strip Loin served with sautéed green beans and roasted red potatoes. Whatever you decide, you’re sure to enjoy your meal!
