If you’re moving to another city or different part of the country investigate the communities, what they have to offer and what attractions would be of interest to your children. Excite your children about the possibilities of new places to explore.
Search for families with same-age children:
When you move make it a priority to get to know other families and invite them over for playdates in a nearby park or to your home.
Find activities for your children to join:
The sooner your children get involved in activities of interest the sooner they will meet new children and make new friends.
Develop support groups:
Reach out to teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, clergy and others that might help play a critical role in helping your child adjust to the move.
Recognize their Feelings:
Allow your child to mourn the loss of his friends, community and former home. Empathize and acknowledge that you share those feelings to too and it is normal to feel this way.
