Baby it’s going to be cold outside this week-end in Austin. It’s 30 degrees this morning and headed downward over the week-end! Of course next week it will be back in the high 70’s so I can take that swing! Why not brave the cold for a classic Italian inspired trattoria…. It might be just the ticket where you can sit back, relax while enjoying a delicious meal near the lake!

68 Degrees is well-known for having delicious food made in-house with local ingredients. This gem is located near Lady Bird Lake at Deep Eddy Pool right off downtown. It’s a neighborhood restaurant with upscale chic Austin ambiance operated by sisters Joan and Marion Gillcrist that has counter service during the day and waiter service at night. 68 Degrees serves classic Italian inspired dishes accompanied by an extensive beer and wine list.
A sampling of what you will find on the menu: for appetizers, try the Risotto Fritter – a winter salad with mushrooms and shaved parmesan reggiano…or the Mac & Cheese Balls fried with mozzarella, ricotta and parmesan cheese. On the entrée menu there is Linguine Puttanesca with Yellowfin Tuna served with capers, olives, anchovies and tomato. You will also find Grilled Trout with roasted fall root and green vegetables and lemon caper butter … and the Petite Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin served with fingerling potatoes, green beans, grilled onions, shaved parmesan, arugula and truffled mushroom butter. Finish the evening off with their Profiteroles that are served with Amy’s ice cream topped with a decadent dark chocolate. A perfect Italian fix!
