Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and some of you may have finished shopping while others like our very own Kathy Streib will be out circling the stores in the malls Christmas eve reveling in the fun, excitement and finishing her shopping. Either way you could use a break right about now. Do you like ice cream? Do you like booze? Then I’ve got just the place for you! Sit back and get ready to relax in a creamery that believes a little booze won’t hurt you!
PROHIBITION CREAMERY http://prohibitioncreamery.com/
Prohibition Creamery, located on East 7th Street was started by founder, Laura Aidan, out of a love for handcrafted recipes, local ingredients and having a really good time. She combined 2 favorite indulgences – alcohol and ice cream – into crafted ice creams that have an attitude! She started in her own kitchen in Austin and became intrigued with the science of ice cream making. She attended a 120 year old ice cream program at Penn State University to learn everything she could. After spending years mastering her craft, Prohibition Creamery was born.
Imagine ordering a scoop of mescal vanilla ice cream and topping it off with a shot of Patron XO Café. Their signature Triple Bourbon milkshake is made with 3 scoops of bourbon ice cream, milk and a bit of bourbon. Then it’s mixed for about a minute and finished off with their home made bourbon whipped cream. Among other flavors you’ll find brandied cherries swirled in vanilla, bananas foster, whiskey chocolate, tiramisu and white wine poached pear sorbet. While the thought of the harsh taste of hard liquor being mixed with ice cream might be intimidating, they actually blend very well.
Prohibition starts with the finest ingredients and crafts the ice cream from scratch with local fresh milk, cream, eggs and sugar. They pasteurize their ice cream base in order to ensure the source and freshness of every ingredient goes in their ice creams and sorbets. They even serve an all black ice cream and waffle cone at Halloween! They serve craft cocktails, beer and wine along with non-alcoholic ice cream for the kiddos. If you want to try something that is not on the menu, ask them and I’ll be they will create it for you!
