I love neighborhood restaurants that are owned by local residents! I discovered this bistro in Clarksville because a friend and I stopped for lunch (she use to live in the hood). Geno and I returned for dinner a week later and loved everything about it; the atmosphere, the food, the wine and we met one of the owners! You’ll enjoy a delicious meal in this Italian bistro that is special but not stuffy, well-priced with that low-key feeling of home.

For more than a decade, this neighborhood bistro has been serving up wood fired pizzas and other specialties to the people of Clarksville and those driving from all corners of Austin. Chef Daniel Hunt has brought a new energy and fresh point of view to Cipollina’s menu by making dishes that are not only fun, but contain more seasonal elements. Judging from the talk around the neighborhood, this has been well received. For example, he is now steaming the mussels in a broth of fresh ginger, garlic and cilantro with preserved key lime bringing out their fresh savory flavor. For an appetizer, combine those mussels with the garlic knots in roasted garlic butter served with marinara sauce.
Cipollina has always been known for its pizza. On the menu you could try the Lamb, harissa, feta and mint pizza that is served with slices of Loncito’s lamb for something a little different. The eggplant pizza is equally delicious with oven dried tomatoes, fontina, basil and tomato sauce. For a main course, there’s Shrimp Scampi topped with breadcrumbs and garlic served with linguini. You might also try the Pan Seared Snapper served with a confit tomato salad and grille scallions.
When it’s time for dessert you might like the Vanilla Crème Brulee with a vanilla base, vanilla sugar crust and seasonal fruit. Or, try the Goat Cheesecake made with local Wateroak goat cheese with a chocolate chip cookie crust and dark caramel sauce. Whatever you order, you are sure to enjoy yourself and will be happy you decided to try this West Austin neighborhood Italian Bistro.
