It’s hard to believe 8 years ago I started blogging! Why did I start blogging? If you remember the fall of 2008 the financial crisis was in full swing and it was time to rethink some marketing strategies! My son, John Dunham, and my friend and marketing rep for Austin Title, Roxanne Watson, encouraged me to join Active Rain. Roxanne sat with me and helped me fill out my profile and get my blog up and running.
On October 31, 2008 I posted my first 3 posts! I’d been lurking around on Active Rain reading and commenting on others posts and finally got the nerve to create 3 posts, took a big gulp and hit the submit button!

I was bummed..I received nada comments! I’d taken photos and inserted them (what a process) and spent a lot of time drafting those first posts! In November I posted 23 posts to my blog and received only 3 comments total! In December I posted 41 posts to my blog and received 119 comments (less than 3 a post) which I decided was an improvement!

I admit I was discouraged but residents in my community were reading my posts and toldl me they were following my posts! I decided interacting and commenting on other member posts could be the key in obtaining more comments (surely it was not the content :).).
I established a routine of reading and commenting early in the morning and discovered there is so much to learn on Active Rain! It’s like taking a mini course in “best business practices” every day, receiving some inspirational messages and enjoying some “just for fun” reads. It’s amazing what caring about others lives, their business and the differences across the country can do to change your perception!
I am grateful to Roxanne and John for insisting I get blogging. 8 years strong and I’m #1 in Texas on the Leader Board. I’m still sharing, learning and loving every minute of this great Network of Professionals. I’m celebrating “My Anniversary!!” Cheers!!
