Bob “RealMan” Timm has challenged us bloggers here in Active Rain in his September contest to write about successful business promotions to provide some fresh ideas for other real estate professionals. He’s asked for some “wildly successful promotions.” I’m enjoying reading some creative ideas from agents who’ve already posted their entries.
I’ve always operated under the premise successful marketing is a long term activity. My goal is to acquire raving fans and loyal referral resources. Since I’m an independent contractor I am a business owner and decide who I want to work and market to and what kind of relationships I want to form in conducting my business.
I know who I am, what I have to offer and identify and understand my target market. I’ve been marketing to my sphere and community of Canyon Creek for over 22 years and I can honestly state over 95% of my business comes from my target areas. Colin Powell said it best “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.” I don’t believe in gimmicks, just giving something of value over and over again.

I focus on communication and direct contact through volunteering and sponsorship consistently to community and school events. This connects me with those I’m seeking to develop relationships with …..its fun and I enjoy it! Real estate is a relationship building business. It is a contact sport! Our productivity is directly related to our presence and our message. They do have to be aligned. Consistent marketing delivering the same message is my strategy.
Mark Hairston with Supreme Lending sends me nuggets of inspiration every morning. One of his missiles really resonated with me because this is how I conduct my business:
There are 7 ways we connect with people in the order of potential impact.
All 7 ways are very productive when our presence and our message (words/tone/vibe) are in alignment.
7 Mediums To Deliver Your Message
1. In Person: one-on one
2. Client Event/Seminar/Group
3. On the Phone or Skype
4. Hand Written Note Card
5. Text Message
6. Personal Email
7. Facebook or other Social Media
My communication is direct and I usually follow these 7 steps in this exact order.
