Are you feeling adventuresome this week-end for a fine dining experience? After all this rain the week-end boasts a few hours of sunshine (or not depending on the latest forecast) so why not explore some authentic Northern and Southern Asian cuisines?
SHABU HOT POT & NOODLE BAR http://shabuaustin.com
Executive Chefs George Chen and Keung Chan have brought the flavors of Northern China and Hong Kong together. Their passion is to serve others through their dedication and culinary skills, which together represent over 75 years of experience. They have the first full hot-pot menu ever formally appearing in Austin. Shabu has a large variety of Northern & Hong Kong style starters like their sesame pockets and jellyfish salad.
If the Hot Pot sounds interesting – this unique specialty is something to experience, but, it does come with its own etiquette that needs to be followed:
One Pot Per Guest: this pot is personal sized that ensures your complete satisfaction and cleanliness.
Broth Selection: You choose from 4 different hot pot sauces: Ma-La Broth (spicy), Shitake Mushroom, Tomato Broth and Herbal Broth
Dipping Sauce: There is a complimentary first round of 3 dipping sauces: oyster chili, Sha-cha and olive garden sauce
Preparation Guidelines:
1. Select your meats, seafood and vegetables from the hot pot menu – Each food order has a serving size of 3-4 people and is presented raw and ready to cook from the à la carte menu.
2. Submerge the raw ingredients into the broth to cook.
3. When preparing a combination of meat and vegetables, cook the meat first to flavor the broth quicker.
4. Serve yourself the cooked ingredients with dipping sauce, when ready.
5. If your utensils come in contact with raw meat, dip them into the pot for several seconds before reusing them.

There are also delicious items on the appetizer menu to try like the Tempura Spider: whale-sized softshell crab (whole), shichimi-spiced, crisp fried in tempura batter. On the noodles in broth menu there’s BBQ Pork Ramen with oyster mushroom, snow peas, green onions, boiled egg, red chili and Japanese ramen noodles. And, on the dessert menu try the Passion Mango Cheesecake with layers of creamy, smooth passion fruit & mango, infused buttermilk cheesecake topped with tart passion fruit curd, finished with a shimmering glaze of passion fruit and mango.
No matter what you eat, Shabu wants you to have fun, savor each bite and enjoy!
