Built into a limestone hillside, you’ll find El Alma in a multi-tiered building with the bar’s staircase set against a rock wall with tropical plants and a waterfall. That staircase leads to an extensive outdoor patio. The interior has vivid white-washed walls with colorful local art creating a vibrant, warm and inviting atmosphere.
Chef Alma Alcocer loves to cook and does so with a passion as if you were in her own home. She serves dishes that reflect her own style as well as the ever changing tastes of Austin diners. Drinks from the bar are also very special with choices that include the Chilanga, tequila with sangrita and cucumber mojitos.
Chef Alma features a childhood favorite: ‘gringas’ (a snack made of flour tortillas, cheese and pork) that is perfect to enjoy with one of those specials from the bar! You’ll also find small plates and sophisticated entrees to choose from. El Alma uses fresh ingredients and rich layered sauces that give way to Duck Enchiladas with mole, Shrimp & Crab Relleno and Carne a la Parilla among other wonderful dishes…like the Chuleta de Puerco – a pork chop marinated in a pasilla-coke sauce served with rice and cheese relleno and slaw. Also on the menu is a delicious 12 oz. Black Angus Ribeye rubbed with coffee and grilled then served with chiles toreados, caramelized onions, mortia chimichurri and spiced crispy papita. Top it all of with a slice of Rum Coconut Cream Cake served with berries. Chef Alma’s menu is fun and flavorful giving her diners an authentic representation of the food she ate growing up in Mexico City.
