In the middle of the Mueller neighborhood in East Austin is where you will find the Bribery Bakery where almost everything is pink, fanciful and sweet. Owner Jodi Elliott describes it as her idea of a true bakery and bar. It has plenty of seating, great food, wine and cocktails. A place where you can enjoy a cocktail and some ice cream after you’ve just had dinner and won’t feel awkward just ordering dessert.
There are savory snack items like meat and cheese boards, as well as popovers with jams and spreads and cinnamon rolls the size of your face (so they say!). The menu is a perfect balance between creative and nostalgic, Jodi gets to showcase her pastry skills while also exercising her formal training to cocktails. She calls it a five-in-one concept: a bakery, café, coffee shop, restaurant and bar.
On her menu, you’ll find Sweet & Savory Croissants, Chocolate Cake and Apple Coffee Cake for your sweet tooth! For something a little heartier, there’s Bacon Gruyere Popovers & Ham, Egg & Cheddar Biscuits. For something to drink try an Iced Coffee, Latte or Cappucino. Or, you might like to try The Franny with vodka, rosemary, blood orange and bubbles or The Zooey with apple brandy, cherry liquer, cinnamon and lavender. There’s always an element of surprise at The Bribery (like replacing the salt shakers with sprinkle shakers!), but never at the cost of flavor and hospitality. She wants to be able to “show everyone the other side of what pastry does.”
