It’s Valentine’s week-end and there’s a spot that might be perfect for Austinitites and visitors to top off a romantic evening of indulgence – a dessert Bar! No problem if it’s late they are always open late for that one last craving before calling it a night…

Located on West Sixth St., this purple 1920’s bungalow is sure to be a hit. Nightcap caters to those who love to indulge in all things sweet. They are predominately a place for pastry; however there is also a savory side to their menu along with an impressive list of spirits.
The design is timeless, the ambiance is candlelit and they have spot lighting that highlights their passion for food, drink and tasteful décor. They offer a variety of desserts and cocktails, but, you can also order milk and cookies!
The menu has savory small bites for those not wanting to skip dinner like a Fennel Pretzel with dill garlic butter & mustard seed; or the Confit Pork Shoulder with smoked banana, barley, red jam onion & cilantro and the Seared Atlantic Salmon served with red cabbage, celery root, smoked buttermilk & mustard seed.
They are a dessert oriented restaurant, so they have more dessert than savory items on the menu. Some of what you’ll find on the “sweets” menu: Coffee & Donut – coffee panna cotta, cardamom cream, crispy ham and a ricotta beignet…The Salt & Pepper – chocolate pave, brown butter ice cream & honeycomb… The Elvis Brownie – banana almond brownie, coconut sorbet & candied pecan and Not Your Father’s Root Beer Float with Not Your Father’s Root Beer & vanilla ice cream. And, lasting their cocktails… Being called Nightcap – the list is impressive.
They’ve taken traditional cocktails that people like and understand and put fun names on them. There’s the Let’s Pear Them Up with kappa pear, pear simple syrup, lemon juice & egg white…the Between The Sheets with president brandy, crème de cacao and softened vanilla ice cream and the Red Headed Step Child with bulleit rye, lemon & orange juices, sugar cube and topped off with wine. Of course, there are also original cocktails like Punch Drunk Love with a lavender milk punch made with Treaty Oak bourbon and almond milk.
And, to top it all off, there is parking available with their valet service located behind the restaurant; and the service is complimentary from 5p-12m Tuesday- Saturday. Owner Christin Rowan-Adams said she wanted to create a place that was an extension of her home. I think she’s succeeded.
