Selling homes with families with kids
According to the 2014 National Association of REALTORS, Home Buyer and Seller Generation Trends report there is a current tendency for Gen Xers and Gen Yers to move into larger and higher priced homes. They are generally moving because of work or just want more room with growing families.
Listing homes when young children are living in the house can be a remarkable test of wills! Keeping the home show ready, navigating nap times, serving up lunch and dinner can be a real challenge! A veteran Realtor will have some tricks up their sleeves to make the process easier. Experienced REALTORS know how to involve the whole family in the moving process.
A number of years ago I had several families with young kids and I drew up a contract for the kids to sign. It stated they would clean their rooms, help take the garbage out, pick up and run through the check list I drew up when a showing was scheduled, including turning lights on! In return when the house sold they were to each receive 3 crisp $10 bills!

One family had 2 kids and they were so excited when their home sold in 2 days they drew a picture of their home and glued it on a picture of us and brought it to our home (we lived down the street)! They said we were the best and told all their neighbors and kids at school.
It just goes to show with proper planning and expectations, a list of what to do and family cooperation all things are possible! The process can be smooth and the home will sell faster if the whole family is on board!
