Vote Proposition 1 in Austin TX Homeowner Property Tax Relief
November 3 2015 is Election Day for Constitutional Amendments. October 19 through October 30, 2015 you can cast your ballots early. If you’re a homeowner it’s important to get out and vote for Proposition 1! Early Polling Places.
Many refer to this Proposition as the “Home Owner Property Tax Relief.” Austin is growing at an extraordinary rate because it’s a great place to live. We want to keep it that way and keep it affordable. Property values are rising and our property taxes need to be kept in check to keep owning a home in Austin affordable.
Proposition 1 lowers property taxes, bans a sales tax on real estate, saves money for seniors and disabled Texans and mandates that Texas reimburse local school districts for any loss in revenue.
An important aspect of approving Proposition 1 is prohibiting enacting a real estate transfer tax when you sell your home. Texas doesn’t have such a tax now, but the other states that do have found it negatively impacts home affordability. How would
you like to pay 2-3% of the sales price of your home for a transfer tax?? Some states do and it’s causing a real hardship on homeowners. Voter’s get out and vote if you want to see some property tax relief!
