Are you sending mixed signals when communicating?

I read an interesting article by Rhett Power on 5 body language tips you need to master when communicating. Unless you are living under a rock you recently witnessed a host of communication styles in the CNN Republican debates in Simi Valley recently held at the Ronald Reagan Library.

Did you know from case studies 55% is communicated through your body language, 38% through the tone of your voice and only 7% from the words you use! The actual words you use are important (no one wants to listen to poor grammar) but it is possible for your words and body language to send your listener mixed messages.

There are 5 tips Rhett Power suggests you need to master to communicate effectively:

  • Eye Contact
  • Head nods
  • Forget the fiddling
  • Hands off the face
  • The perfect posture

Why are voters listening and identifying with Donald Trump and Carly Fiorina? Their body language!! They are both expressive, looks the camera in the eye, definitely nod their heads (Donald more than Carly), they don’t fiddle or touch their face and both have good posture (especially Carly Fiorina). You are not getting mixed signals from their message (whether you like their message or not).

It’s important to consider your body language in a listing presentation if you’re going to stand out from your competition. Are you making a connection with your prospective sellers? Can you make some improvements? Are you putting them to sleep with a canned presentation? Are you animated? Do you look them in the eye and show you are knowledgeable and interested in serving their needs? I don’t know of anyone who can’t use a re-evaluation so check the 5 tips Rhett offers and see if you have room for improvement.
